What Are the Different AC Coil Types?

Air Conditioning

Your air conditioner has many working parts to it. One part in particular that ensures the air conditioner in your North Carolina home operates correctly is the AC coil. You’ll find more than one type of air conditioner coil that aids in the smooth operation of your AC. Here are some of the different AC coil types and why it’s important to ensure that these air conditioning parts work correctly.

Different AC Coil Types

There are two main AC coil types, including the condenser coil and evaporator coil. These two coils work together within your air conditioner to move indoor heat to the outdoor area. The evaporator coil is located on the indoor air handler and removes heat from the house. Cold refrigerant goes through the evaporator, warm indoor air goes through the evaporator coil, and the refrigerant absorbs the heat and pushes it out to the outdoor air conditioning unit.

The refrigerant goes through the outdoor condenser coil and releases heat. A fan then blows hot air through the condenser coil and to the outside. The refrigerant flow then returns to an indoor evaporator coil and then changes back to a frigid gas which ultimately absorbs more heat.

AC Coil Issues

Since AC coils are vital parts within the air conditioning unit, problems with these coils can cause your air conditioner to not work correctly. Some AC coil issues that may occur include dirty coils that become obstructed, icing on the coils, and refrigerant leaks. An AC coil that is clogged or has mold growth in it can cause obstructions in the coil. A coil can become clogged with dirt and debris which will prevent the heat dispersal from being at the maximum potential. Also, ice formation on the coil can prevent the AC from working correctly and should be resolved as soon as possible. In addition, if you notice any refrigerant leaks, a call to your HVAC professional is necessary.

Should you encounter any of these issues, an HVAC professional can help you resolve these problems quickly so you can get back to enjoying your cool, refreshing indoor air.

Why Is It Vital Your AC Coils Work Correctly?

You might think that an AC coil isn’t going to cause an air conditioner to not work, but this isn’t the case. Your air conditioner coils are important parts of the overall AC system and if these parts don’t work correctly, you’ll find that your air conditioner won’t work as it should. Therefore, it’s important to ensure that your AC coils remain in good condition.
